Kat Norris shares her experiences and thoughts about residential school and the TRC

KatFThe first paragraph of the TRC’s final summary report reads.

“For over a century, the central goals of Canada’s Aboriginal policy were to eliminate
Aboriginal governments; ignore Aboriginal rights; terminate the Treaties; and, through a process of assimilation, cause Aboriginal peoples to cease to exist as distinct legal, social, cultural, religious, and racial entities in Canada. The establishment and operation of residential schools were a central element of this policy, which can best be described as “cultural genocide.”

I speak to Kat Norris Indigenous activist and founder of the Indigenous Action Movement about her experiences in residential school, how she has turned her negative experiences
into something positive by finding her voice and how she has become a warrior voice for her people. She shares her thoughts about the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) and what role first nations must play in the change that needs to happen and what role allies/settler populations must play.
